Hotel Nafarrola is located in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and close to many other rural and coastal delights that make Vizcaya and the whole Basque Country such a nature-lover’s paradise.
That said, we are also just down the road from picturesque village of Bermeo and a short drive from the urban treats of Bilbao. We like to think it’s the ideal location to switch off and get immersed in nature, while also being able to get our culture fix whenever we need it. Having grown up in Bermeo, we know this part of the world like the back of our hands and love nothing more than guiding our guests towards the secret places that only locals know, ensuring they experience the magic of our region and fall in love with it just as we have done.

Spanning 25 acres, Hotel Nafarrola is located on historic farmland home to a magnificent natural environment. Rich in flora and fauna, step outside to find rolling fields, an emerald forest with ancient trees such as oaks and maritime pines, and an icy river running through. Bilbao
A cultural and artistic hotspot, Bilbao has long shaken off its industrial reputation to become one of Europe’s urban treasures. Frank Gehry’s iconic Guggenheim is the obvious first stop in the city, but do leave time to enjoy its other delights, from the pretty old town with its plethora of excellent pintxo bars, many museums and galleries, restaurants, iconic football stadium home to Athletic Bilbao, even the metro - designed by Norman Foster – is an architectural triumph.
San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
Visit Gaztelugatxe and get closer to the history of Bermeo and the Basque Country. Rock, sea and wind make up one of the most emblematic points on the Basque coast. You can visit it from the sea, observe it from the viewpoint between Bakio and Bermeo, or climb its 241 steps to enjoy a sunset like few others.

At any time of the year, there is practically always somewhere to surf in our area. Emblematic waves such as Mundaka, beaches such as Bakio, Laga or Sopelana are all very close to Hotel Nafarrola, or come along for championships, such as the Punta Galea Challenge. If you’ve never surfed before, it’s a perfect place to learn with lots of beginner’s courses on offer.
